about

my story

I started playing the violin at age 10, but I really fell in love with it in my basement at age 14, when I realized I had gained enough skill to learn Metallica and Legend of Zelda songs by ear. I’m not a coordinated person by nature, so violin playing didn’t come naturally to me. I had such a rough start with the instrument that I received an ultimatum from my teacher: play Twinkle Twinkle up to standards and from memory, or don’t return to the group class. A big demand for a 10-year-old, but I’ve never been one to shy away from a challenge! Spoiler: I learned it.

Alongside Metallica and Zelda, I learned the classical repertoire and many genres of fiddle/folk music. I studied violin with the Ariana String Quartet at University of Missouri-St Louis, and went on to complete a Master’s degree in mental health counseling. I spent the next decade working in schools with neurodivergent learners and in therapy sessions with children and parents, supporting families working toward reunification.

As tends to happen, life brought me full-circle back to playing and teaching professionally (no longer just moonlighting). I find that all my weird passions and interests - music, teaching, creativity, and helping others - converge at the point of playing and teaching violin.

my teaching philosophy

Learning the violin should be fun, inspiring, and a little bit adventurous. My lessons are all about you: your goals, your interests, your quirks. Whether you want to master a tricky classical piece, jam to your favorite video game soundtrack, or rock out to some My Chemical Romance, we’ll figure out how to make it happen.

I have a special affinity for neurodivergent learners and anyone who thinks differently or has felt excluded from traditional learning experiences. ADHD, autism, learning differences…you bring a unique perspective, and I’ll help you use it to your advantage. My approach mixes creativity with structure: we’ll tackle challenges, celebrate every win (even the tiny ones), and I’ll make sure you never take yourself too seriously along the way.

I accept students from all walks of life. I specialize in working with adult beginners and neurodivergent learners, and I teach across classical, fiddle, and contemporary styles, including rock and alternative music. My instruction is informed by a mixed pedagogical approach incorporating Suzuki, Rolland, and other established string methods. I offer both in-person and online instruction, host regular online recitals, and am a member of the American String Teachers Association.

my experience

I have over 15 years of experience teaching violin and viola to students from beginner through advanced levels. My students have earned placements in All-State ensembles and have placed at the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior State Convention.

I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and studied violin at the University of Missouri–St. Louis under the Ariana String Quartet. I maintain an active performing career as a member of the Central Florida Community Arts Orchestra and as a local freelance musician.
